Arlo security cameras make it easier than ever to keep an eye on your home—all from the convenience of your phone. For best results, you should use your provider’s dedicated app to connect your camera to your mobile device. Let’s explore how to connect your Arlo camera to your phone for peace of mind on the go.
How to view your home security camera on a cell phone.
When it comes to linking your home security camera to your phone, you should always start with an internet connection. Wireless security cameras such as the Arlo Pro 4 and the Arlo 2nd Gen Indoor Wired Security Camera connect directly to your Wi-Fi network without the need for a Base Station or SmartHub.
Launch your app: Launch the Arlo Secure App on your phone.
Add a new device to your app: Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap Add New Device.
Select your camera type. Tap Cameras, then tap Pro or Essential and select Camera type.
Connect to the network. Chances are your wire-free camera does not require a SmartHub. Be sure to select Connect without SmartHub and tap Continue.
Connect to Wi-Fi: Return to your Arlo Secure App and tap continue. Enter your network name, also known as a Wi-Fi SSID, and password. Pro tip: Always check your mobile device settings to ensure your security camera is linked to a 2.4 GHz network.
Sync in seconds: Press and hold the Sync button on the bottom of the camera for 2 seconds and then scan the relevant QR code about four to six inches in front of your Arlo camera. Make sure your camera is always within 3 to 6 feet of your Wi-Fi router during the setup process. To avoid signal interference, you should avoid placing the camera within close proximity of other Wi-Fi devices.
Now you’re all set! Name and position your camera, tap continue & finish.

Is an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station not installed? Don’t worry. Simply add a new SmartHub. Plug the Ethernet Cable into your SmartHub or Base Station, and tap Continue. Then, plug the AC adapter into the wall outlet and make sure the lights turn on, and tap Continue. Insert the battery into the camera, and Arlo will look for your camera in the Arlo Secure App.
So, can I connect any security camera to my phone?
Yes, you can connect most security cameras to your phone through Wi-Fi. Security cameras usually need to be connected to the same wireless network as your phone in order for them to pair successfully. Being able to access your security camera through your smartphone will allow you to keep tabs on what’s going on around your home even when you’re far away.
So, which mobile-friendly security camera should I buy? A camera with versatile capabilities like real-time motion detection and live stream capabilities is essential.
